The client required the development of a Joint Mission Design process to more systematically determine Defence's interest priorities and address the emergence of rapidly evolving nation-state threats to Australia's interests.

Using a top-down design approach, GRS decomposed strategic guidance into essential missions and prioritised capability needs as part of a structured way of identifying Defence capability needs.
Given the significance of the Joint Mission Design to the ADF force design process, GRS positioned staff with deep operational experience and directly relevant postgraduate education. Each staff with more than thirty years of ADF experience, including operational service in the Middle East and other theatres of conflict.
GRS also positioned staff with several decades of systems engineering and program management experience in the Australian Department of Defence.
